Principal's Message
Be Here. Be You. Belong. Dillard School belongs to all of us.
At Dillard, we are committed to creating a challenging, engaging, and supportive environment to promote learning so that Dillard scholars will be able to pursue the skills needed for college and career readiness through hard work and determination. With this vision in place and as we equitably provide opportunities for learning, we believe all students will be able to achieve high goals for academic success.
Within each classroom, all students engage in learning to master their grade level Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Reading and writing are taught using our Reading Wonders curriculum, as well as through instruction incorporating novels and short stories. Teachers also integrate English language arts skills with science and social studies. Math is taught through the enVision Mathematics curriculum with an emphasis on reasoning skills and application to real world situations. We are excited about the discoveries students will make as they apply thinking skills to rich learning experiences. In addition, we develop writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills (WICOR) through schoolwide implementation of the AVID program (Achievement Via Individual Determination).
In order to build a firm foundation of knowledge, skills, and work habits, it is essential for students to attend school regularly. Being here for all instruction, and building regular work habits day to day, prepares them for the rigors of middle school, high school, and beyond. To highlight the importance of school attendance, we provide incentives for school attendance and monitor our progress at achieving school-wide goals through our attendance program, “Be Here! You don’t want to miss a thing!”
We are looking forward to a year of outstanding growth for each and every Dillard student!
Sincerely,
Sandy Wiest, Principal
